Here, Fussball Server rounds up the latest transfer talk for Arsenal on Saturday, August 29.
The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Arsenal eye possible reinforcements.
The Gunners spent more than many expected last summer – most notably their club-record purchase of Nicolas Pepe – but were more reserved in January as they focused on bolstering their defensive options.
Here, Fussball Server rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings at the Emirates Stadium.
Saturday morning’s Arsenal transfer talk news roundup:
Arsenal ‘still hopeful of signing £54m Houssem Aouar’
Arsenal are reportedly still hopeful of signing Houssem Aouar this summer, despite Lyon placing a €60m (£53.5m) price tag on his head.
The 22-year-old is wanted by a number of Europe’s top clubs after helping Lyon to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with Manchester City and Juventus also linked with the midfielder.
Arsenal were thought to be leading the race for his signature, but saw a player-plus-cash bid including Matteo Guendouzi turned down earlier this month.
However, Foot Mercato claims that the Gunners have not given up hope of signing Aouar despite Lyon demanding more than £53m for his services.
Lyon sporting director Juninho recently admitted that Aouar could leave the club this summer amid interest from “bigger teams”.
Aouar scored nine goals and created 10 more in 41 appearances for Lyon last season.
Liverpool ‘have deadline to complete Thiago Alcantara deal’
Liverpool reportedly have just over one week to complete a deal for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the Allianz Arena next summer and is widely expected to leave the European champions in the current transfer window.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Spain international, although Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently insisted that the Reds have not been in contact over a potential move.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to be interested, but according to Varsky Sports, the Premier League champions only have just over one week to close a deal for the experienced midfielder.
Thiago was in impressive form for treble-winning Bayern during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring three times and contributing two assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
Manchester United and Arsenal have also previously been mentioned as potential suitors.
