Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Sergio Reguilon as Real Madrid are only prepared to allow the defender to leave on loan this summer, according to a report.
Reguilon starred in the Sevilla team which achieved a top-four finish and a sixth Europa League crown in the 2019-20 season, making 38 appearances in total while on loan at Julen Lopetegui‘s side.
The Spaniard is now back in Madrid ahead of the new campaign, but with Ferland Mendy and Marcelo among the ranks on the left-hand side for Los Blancos, Reguilon could supposedly seek a move elsewhere this summer.
However, Sport claims that while Real manager Zinedine Zidane is happy to part ways with the left-back, the powers-that-be would rather see Reguilon depart on loan for the 2020-21 campaign.
The report comes as a blow to United who are believed to have already submitted a £27m bid for Reguilon, but the Red Devils are still said to be at the head of the queue for the 23-year-old despite strong interest from other clubs.
Reguilon’s current deal at the Bernabeu will run until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
