Chelsea have reportedly reached “a crucial stage” in talks over a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The 28-year-old has seemingly emerged as the club’s leading target between the sticks as they look for a new number one due to Kepa Arrizabalaga‘s struggles.
The Senegal international is allegedly available for £30m during this summer’s transfer window and could be on the move before the deadline passes at the start of October.
According to journalist Kevin Palmer, talks over a move to Stamford Bridge have reached “a crucial stage”, and the stopper could now be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Palmer, though, also claimed on Twitter that Frank Lampard‘s side were considering other goalkeeping options.
Mendy, who has a contract with Rennes until June 2023, has kept 36 clean sheets in his 85 outings for his current club in all competitions.
